2021 1st Round NFL Mock Draft

By this point in the offseason we've all seen hundreds of mock drafts and I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm more than ready for Thursday night to kick off the 2021 NFL Draft. I've always wanted to make my own mock draft to test how accurate I can be. Some of the rationale behind these picks are based on buzz around the league but most of them are based on the team needs and player potential. There will undoubtably be trades throughout the draft but I don't have a crystal ball nor can I read minds, so I won't try to project any. Without further ado, my first round predictions:

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence QB Clemson
  2. New York Jets: Zach Wilson QB BYU
  3. San Francisco 49ers: Justin Fields QB Ohio State
  4. Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Pitts TE Florida
  5. Cincinnati Bengals: Ja'Marr Chase WR LSU
  6. Miami Dolphins: Jaylen Waddle WR Alabama
  7. Detroit Lions: Penei Sewell OT Oregon
  8. Carolina Panthers: Rashawn Slater OT Northwestern
  9. Denver Broncos: Trey Lance QB NDSU
  10. Dallas Cowboys: Jaycee Horn CB South Carolina
  11. New York Giants: Jaelen Phillips EDGE Miami
  12. Philadelphia Eagles: Devante Smith WR Alabama
  13. Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Darrisaw OT Virginia Tech
  14. Minnesota Vikings: Elijah Vera-Tucker OT USC
  15. New England Patriots: Mac Jones QB Alabama
  16. Arizona Cardinals: Patrick Surtain II CB Alabama
  17. Las Vegas Raiders: Micah Parsons LB Penn State
  18. Miami Dolphins: Christian Barmore DL Alabama
  19. Washington Football Team: Jeremiah Owuso-Koramora LB Notre Dame
  20. Chicago Bears: Greg Newsome II CB Northwestern
  21. Indianapolis Colts: Azeez Ojulari LB Georgia
  22. Tennessee Titans: Elijah Moore WR Ole Miss
  23. New York Jets: Caleb Farley CB Virginia Tech
  24. Pittsburgh Steelers: Alex Leatherwood OT Alabama
  25. Jacksonville Jaguars: Kwity Paye EDGE Michigan
  26. Cleveland Browns: Gregory Rousseau EDGE Miami
  27. Baltimore Ravens: Rashod Bateman WR Minnesota
  28. New Orleans Saints: Jayson Oweh EDGE
  29. Green Bay Packers: Terrace Marshall Jr. WR LSU
  30. Buffalo Bills: Najee Harris RB Alabama
  31. Baltimore Ravens: Teven Jenkins OT Oklahoma State
  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Zaven Collins LB Tulsa

If I had to predict some trades for the first round I'd say the LA Chargers in search of the best OT available, the Patriots in order to land their QB of the future, the Bears for the same reason, and the Bills to make sure they can get their hands on the best back on the board. The Broncos are a team to watch in a potential trade in the top 5, you have to think they want to bring in some competition for Drew Lock. They have to leave this draft with that competition whether it requires a trade or not.

Atlanta seems to be in a prime position to move out of the #4 spot when (not if) a team convinces itself that it needs whoever is on the board out of Fields, Jones, Lance. Rumors of a potential Julio trade make me think Kyle Pitts will be the selection but stockpiling picks in a trade back scenario would be the best case for the Falcons.

2021 NBA Draft: 3 Prospects to Watch

The NBA Draft is upon us and I’m back to give my 2nd annual players to watch list. Just like with Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman last year, I want to stay away from the clear cut top 2 picks in this draft which I believe to be Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley. I do believe that both have the potential to be high end stars in the NBA but given their current draft projections, so does everyone else. So we’re going to cover the 3 guys that interest me the most personally.   To do a quick recap of last years post, pre-draft the 3 players I was most interested in were Obi Toppin, Tyrese Haliburton, and LaMelo Ball. Haliburton went on to have a strong rookie year and LaMelo Ball won Rookie of the Year, whereas Toppin struggled with injuries and will look to get things on track in year 2. Two out of three hits isn’t bad though. Alright enough about last year, the 2021 draft class has a few prospects that have high ceiling potential and I’m hype to see who lands where. Brandon Ingram: A New Star Has Emerged

Brandon Ingram has emerged as one of the top young players in the league in the 2019-2020 season and future cornerstone of the New Orleans Pelicans. Depending on who you speak to, you’re going to get differing opinions on the 2016 draft. The draft class is still littered with uncertainty, is there a true star among them? Is Ben Simmons a franchise player if he never becomes a decent shooter? Was Jamal Murray worth 5 years $170 million? Is Domantas Sabonis a franchise cornerstone or just a high-end role player? Among all the questions surrounding the 2016 draft class, one has been undeniably answered so far in the 2019-2020 season: Brandon Ingram is an All Star level player at age 22 and has the potential to develop into a franchise player going forward. The emergence of Ingram may come as a surprise for some who may have written off the 22 year old forward a little prematurely after his first 3 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers left a lot to be desired. The Historic James Harden Trade

Blockbuster trade alert! We’ve got our first mega trade of the NBA season and as we probably expected, it involved the Houston Rockets. You’ve likely already seen the trade details before reading this but just in case, the accepted trade is being reported as follows: Nets receive James Harden   Rockets receive Victor Oladipo, Dante Exum, Rodions Kurucs, Brooklyn’s 1 st  round picks in 2022, 2024, 2026, Milwaukee’s 2022 unprotected 1 st  round pick, Brooklyn 1 st  round pick swaps in 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2027   Pacers receive Caris Levert   Cavaliers receive Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince    James Harden pulled out all the stops to make sure that he wouldn’t be a Houston Rocket beyond this season and after months of headline grabbing antics, he finally got his wish. Harden showed up to training camp late, out of shape, and showed uncharacteristic inconsistency on the floor on his way out. His 24.8 PPG through 8 games would rank as his worst scoring season since he was coming off of the
